The Preparation or Cue

• Stand just out of distance so the attacker can’t quite reach their victim with a straight arm.

• Establish eye contact.

• The attacker should then shift their focus to look at the victim’s hairline.

• As you look to the hairline, step out to the side as you did for the Cross Punch. Don’t forget to turn the hips out as well.

• Raise the punching arm up, so the fist is at head height and the arm is out to the side, almost straight. This is the victim’s cue, so it needs to be clear.

• You can have the fist vertical or horizontal, it’s up to you.

• You can also include the distance check with the non-punching hand.
